Historically, peas were grown both for animal feed and human use. With the advent of irrigation, green or garden peas were grown from the 1980s to produce frozen peas for Edgell and McCain Foods, and at one stage the farm had 80 hectares of peas.

Centre pivot irrigation has helped lift yields and improve quality of the crop, which is in the ground for a short time only from October to December/January. The remnant trash adds to the value of the crop as pea straw is popular for garden mulch.
