Coachman’s Cottage (circa 1830)

The cottage is surrounded by trees and a cottage style garden with pink roses. A timber picket fence runs along the front garden with alchamila plants and a lawn in the foreground. The steep pitched corrugated iron roof has two chimneys on either side of the house. The front of the cottage has two paned windows painted green with a green front door in the middle and a small porch over. The walls are limewashed brick and a tank stand is on the right of the cottage. Photo: Rob Burnett.

Opening the front door to the Coachman’s Cottage takes you to a time long gone. The brass front door step, original polished timber floors and open fire reveal a time when the Coachman was regarded as the Archer’s highest servant.

The original kitchen — now the dining room — features a large cooking fireplace and bread oven and leads to the current kitchen, sunroom and upstairs. Climbing the delightful timber staircase to the attic bedrooms is like exploring a dolls house while the Georgian paned floor to ceiling windows of the sunroom bathes the room in afternoon light. The bathroom features an old-fashioned claw foot bath plus a walk-in shower and underfloor heating. Enjoy discovering the antique furnishings, books and china throughout the cottage and then snuggle up in any of the three comfortable bedrooms.

A private cottage garden surrounding the cottage leads you on a walk to the natural lagoon with its abundant wild ducks and swans, then enjoy a drink in the early evening accompanied by a cacophony of frogs and native hen calls. Located within the World Heritage precinct of Brickendon, you can wander the magnificent Heritage Gardens or take a slightly longer walk (6 minutes) to the historic Farm Village to enjoy the convict and farming history.
